About this site...

Purpose
This web page was created as a semester-long project for Genetics 677: Genomic and Proteomic Analysis at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  This class is taught by Dr. Ahna Skop, PhD. and is made up of upper level genetics students.  The goal of the project was to apply bioinformatic approaches to study a disease gene.  For more information about the course, visit the course web page where you can find information about the material covered in the course as well a list of other students projects.

The author
Brett Maricque is a third-year Genetics major at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  Brett's interest in studying autism is related to the work he does with a 9-year old boy with autism.  Brett has become increasingly interested in autism over the last two years and decided to research a gene that has been implicated in a percentage of cases of autism, the NrCAM gene.  This project has provided a really good overview as well as some in-depth practice with bioinformatics programs that will be very useful in my future as a researcher.
